Pilates is a low impact exercise system that focuses on targeted stretching and strengthening of the whole body to improve strength, balance, co-ordination, flexibility and posture.

Pilates for pregnancy and beyond

Pilates uses the co-ordination of movement and breath to create a flowing class to challenge your core and strengthen your whole body, it is an excellent aid in rehabilitation from many different types injuries. The exercises in Pilates can be modified to make a programme appropriate yet challenging for anyone.

Bethany has training in Pilates specifically for physiotherapists, rest assured she has an extensive knowledge of the human body and will ensure you are able to work on the right programme, at the correct level, using modifications suitable for your body.

The Pilates method focusses on your core and pelvic floor muscles - areas that are impacted by changes during pregnancy and birth.

Physiotherapist led pilates during pregnancy helps women stay fit and strong in preparation for labour and birth as well as regaining strength and control of the core and pelvic floor muscles postnatally.

Pilates classes for all levels are available in person around Banks Peninsula, Christchurch.

Bethany also provides online programmes and one-to-one Pilates tuition for fitness and rehabilitation on request.

Pilates Origins.

Joseph Pilates, born in Germany in 1880, founded the exercise programme known today as Pilates. The programme was initially designed for dancers but has been modified over the years and adapted for the wider population with many health benefits.
